5 Techniques to Stay Awake at Work

September 26th, 2016

Afternoons are awful when you’re sitting in front of a desk eight to nine hours a day in a warm office, struggling to keep your eyes open and not drift off over your keyboard. Everybody’s yawning and slouching, the keyboard taps have gotten slower, and somewhere in the office, the coffee maker grinds double time.

There are actual decaf ways to fight the sleepy atmosphere in the office. Here are five things to do when you’re feeling like nodding off on your desk during work hours:

  1. Switch on the Light

Open the window; switch on the light; you’ll feel less sleepy if the environment you’re working on is bright. Your body will respond to the exposure to the light and keep you alert and awake.

  1. Take A Break

Take a short break from whatever you’re doing. Look away from the screen, get up for a walk around the floor or simply have a toilet break. Moving about would alleviate the drowsiness.

  1. Have a Healthy Snack

Believe it or not there are naturally energy boosting coffee alternatives that would not give you a rush then send you crashing into a tired mess. These snacks include: whole grain cereal, fresh fruits, trail mix, and nuts.

  1. Drink Water

Water is a natural energy drink. It will help keep your blood flowing and keep you feeling energized. Dehydration often causes drowsiness, sluggish feeling, and tiredness.

  1. Splash Cold Water on Your Face

Doing this will make your body adjust to the temperature change and will wake your systems up.
